Does Your Spouse Know What You Are Doing?

searchall 28/05/2007 @ 09:08

It can’t happen to you. You are immune to accidents and illness. Life will continue to go on just as it has been. However, the screeching of brakes could change that instantly.
You have a thriving Internet business going. Your empire includes several websites that you created, with several different products. You also belong to several affiliate programs, a good network marketing program that is giving you monthly residual income, and a bunch of safe lists and traffic programs. You also have a personal and a business PayPal account, several ClickBank accounts, and a StormPay account, each with a different username and password. Then there are your various email accounts and auto responders. You also have some great software on your computer, such as tour ezine editor and safe list submitter. And you probably have a bunch of things that I didn’t mention.
All this stuff is so much fun to keep track of. However, you are keeping good track of it. Aren’t you?
But are you the only one keeping track of it? Does your spouse have any idea of what you do on the Internet every day? If those screeching tires took you out of commission for a while could your spouse step in for you and keep your Internet Empire running?
If you can answer yes to these questions then pat yourself on the back, you are the exception. You plan ahead for the unexpected. You have set up a free insurance plan that will allow your Internet business to continue even if you can’t for a while. Congratulations. Good going.
How about the rest of you? Is this important to you?
In the off line business world there is “key man insurance”. This insurance is on an individual who is extremely important to the success of the business. It is fairly common in small to medium sized businesses where the founder knows more about the company then anyone else, and much of the knowledge is in his head.
I’ve never heard of “key man insurance” for a home-based Internet business. And even if it did exist, it would probably be very expensive. So you need to take steps to make sure that someone else knows, or can find, the information that you use on a daily basis.
In two previous articles I talked about organizing you’re marketing and getting it written down. Those articles were titled “Increase Your Income with an Organized Marketing Plan” and “Increase Your Income with an Organized Plan”. You can get a copy of them at http://www.The-Home-Business-Center.com/articles.htm. They will give you some good ideas on how to record your Internet information so that someone else could read it and continue for you.
Since your still reading, I assume that you want to create a means whereby someone could continue for you if something were to happen to you. That desire is the first step.
Now spend some time deciding how to do it. Think about how and where you want to record it and what format you want to use. Once you have made these decisions, then start recording it.
It may take time to record all of what you do. Each time you do a new task, go to wherever you are recording the information and make an entry. Be sire to include program names, URLs, user names, and pass words. Include any other pertinent information. In time you should have a fairly complete record of you Internet empire and daily tasks.
Now that it is all recorded somewhere, show it to your spouse (or your children, parents, or who ever needs to know). Show them where to find it and how to access it.
Then go over it in detail with them. Show them the associated web sites. Have them sit down at the computer and do some of the things that you do. Most people learn better if they actually do something instead of just watching you. If possible have then spend a day or two with you doing what you do to keep you’re business going.
When you are done you will feel better, knowing that you have created some key man insurance. Your spouse will feel much more confidant and secure.
And now that your spouse understands your business better the two of you will be able to talk about your business. You might start get some good suggestions from your spouse. Your spouse might even start helping you in the business. And perhaps your relationship will even become stronger.
Perhaps these steps will never be needed. I hope so. However, life has a way of taking a different twist when we least expect it. It is best to prepare for such a twist before it happens.

Aromatherapy and Essential Oils

searchall 28/05/2007 @ 09:07

Aromatherapy makes use of Essential oils. This 3-Part article will provide some detailed insight into the use of Essential oils in Aromatherapy.
We will look at:
a) Where Essential oils come from,
b) The way Essential oils effect the mind and emotions, and
c) The way Essential oils effect the etheric body or the physcho-spiritual level
a) WHERE DO ESSENTIAL OILS COME FROM ? - Essential Oils – Part 1
The odoriferous substances (Essential oils) themselves are formed in the chloroplasts of the leaves where they combine with glucose to form glucides and are then circulated around the plant in this form. At certain times of the day or year they are stored in particular parts of the plant.
In some plants, the essential oils are produced by the secretory tissues, and in others they are combined with glycosides, and are therefore not detectable until the plant is dried or crushed, e.g.: Valerian
Essential oils are considered to be an important part of the plant's metabolism: some have hormonal activity and others are a stage in some other process, e.g.: the oil found in the rind of the orange is a stage in Vitamin A synthesis.
Essential oils can be found in almost any part of the plant, in differing concentrations, depending on the plant itself, the time of day and year. They may be found in the roots (e.g.: Calamus and Valerian), flowers (e.g. Lavender, Rose,), bark (e.g. Sandalwood, Cedarwood), fruits (e.g.: Lemon, Cardamom, Orange), berries (e.g. Juniper), leaves (e.g. Thyme, Rosemary, Sage).
Plants which contain essences must be picked at the correct time of day and in the correct season, and in particular weather conditions in order that a maximum yield of the essential oils can be obtained, and of course, as with all medicinal or nutritional plants, soil conditions, and climatic conditions will also dictate the quality of the oils obtained.
Heavy, concentrated oils are called ABSOLUTES e.g.: Rose, Jasmine, Oils which are solid at room temperature and which must be warmed before use are called BALSAMS, e.g.: Benzoin and Camphor.
HOW DO ESSENTIAL OILS WORK?
Essential oils are known to have an effect on us in three different, but overlapping, ways.
a) On the physical body, both locally and systemically, via the lymphatic and blood circulation.
b) On the mind and emotions via the Sense of Smell and the Limbic System.
c) On the “Etheric Energy System” of the body via the energy vibration of the individual oils themselves.
The Way Essential Oils Effect the Physical Body
When Essential oils are applied to the surface of the body, either via Massage, Baths, Compresses, Creams or Lotions, they will have an effect locally (i.e. the site at which they are applied), and Systemically (i.e. throughout the body). The Systemic effect occurs when essential oils are absorbed through the skin into the Lymphatic Circulation, and they are then dumped from the Lymphatic circulation into the blood stream.
Once the oils are circulating in the blood, they are carried to their TARGET ORGAN/S, where they exert a therapeutic effect on the specific tissues. Every Essential oil has its own Target Organ, e.g. Juniper oil targets the urinary tract and kidneys in particular, with secondary effects on the Digestive, Respiratory and Reproductive Systems. Chamomile Oil targets the Nervous System via which it can then exert a broad effect on many other body Systems, like the Digestive Tract for example.
Even when Essential oils are inhaled only, say in the form of a steam inhalation for a cold or as a fumigator for a background “psychological” effect, the oils will be absorbed across the mucous membranes of the Respiratory Tract and lungs into the blood stream, where once again, they can travel around the body very rapidly.
If Essential Oils are taken orally, their absorption through the Mucosa of the stomach and into the blood is very rapid. Very few essential oils are actually ‘digested’, which is fortunate as their Therapeutic principles may well be altered if this were the case.
The reason why Essential Oils behave in this manner in the body is because the molecules of which they are composed are organic molecules and very small indeed. Below are some of the more common Therapeutic Properties which can be obtained by using Essential Oils.
SOME THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES OF ESSENTIAL OILS
1. ANTISEPTIC
All essential oils are to a greater or lesser extent ANTISEPTIC. This is one of their most important and valuable properties. This broad description of ANTISEPSIS includes anti viral, antifungal, anti-bacterial and general anti-microbial activity which is found in such oils as: Lemon, Thyme, Tea Tree, Garlic, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon, Pine, Lavender and Sandalwood.
2. ANTI-INFLAMMATORY
Oils with this property help to ease inflammation. The symptoms of inflammation are typified by pain, redness, swelling, and partial or total loss of function of the tissue involved. Examples of oils with this property are Chamomile, Rose, Lavender, Sandalwood, Myrrh and Benzoin.
3. CYTOPHYLACTIC
Restoration of tissue function and regeneration of cells is another outstanding property of essential oils. Oils such as Pine, Basil and Rosemary are known to restore function to the adrenal glands, Jasmine, Cypress, and Ylang Ylang restore function of reproductive endocrine glands, lavender and chamomile stimulate cell regeneration in the skin.
4. SEDATIVE
Essential oils may also have a pronounced effect on the nervous system by producing relaxation, pain relief and relieving muscle spasm. Oils with these properties include Lavender, Neroli, Rose, Geranium and Ylang Ylang.
However, the most outstanding property possessed by essential oils is their antiseptic/antigenetic properly.
This is well documented in Dr Jean Valnet's book, "The Practice of Aromatherapy" and he discusses at length the effects of specific oils in relation to the control of extremely virulent microbes like Meningitis bacteria, Golden Staphylococcus bacteria and typhoid bacteria.
In your Reading for Week One, in the Chapter entitled "The Healing Power of Plants", from Valnet's book, there are extensive references to the many ways in which essential oils can affect the physical body.
It is critical to your full understanding and appreciation of Essential Oil Therapy that you appreciate the ways in which essential oils can have both a healing and preventive role in diseases involving invasion of the body by microbes.

Argue With Yourself and Improve Your Health

Even as a child, James was described by teachers and his parents as a happy optimist. As the story goes, one day his parents decided to play a joke on him and test his attitude by requiring him to spend an afternoon cleaning deserted stables at what had been a local racetrack.Returning after two hours, James’ parents observed him singing while happily shoveling manure. Astounded, they walked closer, only to hear him saying to himself over and over, “There has to be a pony in here somewhere.”James did naturally what researchers are increasingly discovering: optimistic thinking skills are a powerful antidote to anger partly because the optimist has better resistance to depression when bad events strike, better performance at work, better physical health and better relationships. Who couldn’t admire and love a person with such a great attitude? But what if you are not naturally optimistic? How can you become an optimist if you now insist on seeing the glass as half-empty instead of half-full?The good news is that, according to psychologist Dr. Martin Seligman, optimism is a learned mental skill. As a past president of the American Psychological Association, he has plenty of research to back up his theory. There are four ways to argue with yourself:At its core, optimism is a style of interpreting events that occur in your world – it is your personal theory or explanation of why both good things and bad things happen to you. While everyone experiences both set-backs and victories in the normal course of life, optimists – in contrast to pessimists – have a very distinct style of explaining things to themselves. Said another way, it is your belief about what happens to you that determines your reaction more than the event itself. The knack of disputing your beliefs is a thought-skill, the mastery of which will morph you into the optimistic style of thinking. There are four ways to do this:1.) Look at the evidence. According to Dr. Seligman, the most convincing way of disputing a negative belief is to show it is factually incorrect. Most of the time you will have ‘reality’ on your side. Your role is that of a detective as you ask, “What is the evidence for my belief?”For example, is it really true that you never succeed in anything? (Very doubtful. Everybody succeeds some of the time.) That you are the worse parent you know? (Can you remember any success you had as a parent?)That you are an incurable glutton? (Can you sometimes resist food?) That you are incredibly selfish? (How many times have you been unselfish?)Using this skill of looking at the evidence, you can defeat pessimism with more accurate perception and recall of what is really true.2.) Consider alternative causes. Most events in the world have more than one cause. Pessimists latch onto the most insidious; optimists tend more to give themselves a break. For example, a marital breakup usually has many causes which probably contributed to its downfall. You can blame yourself. You can blame your partner. A more optimistic interpretation is that neither partner failed as an individual; it was the relationship (the combination) that failed.3.) Put events into perspective. If the facts are not on your side and you cannot honestly see other causes to a negative event, you will need to look at the implications of your beliefs to become an optimistic thinker. Is the event really as catastrophic as you may be making it in your mind? (Hint: few things are). Usually, the implications or long-term effects of your misfortune aren’t as awful or devastating as you may be seeing them.4.) Is your belief useful? Even though a belief may, in fact, be true, it may not be useful. Some beliefs cause more grief than they are worth. You may tell yourself you are a failure, for instance. This belief will likely cause you to stop trying.Instead, substitute a more useful belief like “Just because I failed once doesn’t make me a failure.” Then behave accordingly with your new belief.By learning to use optimism, you can manage anger and improve your health. These four steps will help you overcome your negative tendencies and have a more optimistic view of life.

Aren't all Multi Vitamins Basically the Same?

Multi vitamins can provide a convenient way to take a
variety of supplemental nutrients from a single product to
prevent vitamin or mineral deficiencies, as well as to
achieve higher intakes of beneficial nutrients.
In the current state of the vitamin and nutritional
supplement industry it can be difficult to decide which
supplements will provide real health protection and
improvement benefits and which are simply "me too" products
designed primarily to ride the wave of public interest in
preventative health.
To understand the need to be informed about vitamin and
nutritional supplements, you must understand the regulatory
environment that currently exists in the vitamin supplement
industry in the United States.
Do Vitamin Companies Regulate Themselves?
In October of 1994, President Clinton signed into law the
Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA).
The DSHEA was written to help empower Americans to make
choices about their own preventative health care strategies.
Under the DSHEA it was decided that nutritional supplements
would continue to be regulated as a food product rather than
the more restrictive regulations that drugs fall under.
While this made vitamin and nutritional supplements widely
available it also allowed nutritional supplement
manufacturers to practically regulate themselves, since
there was no agreed upon standard of good manufacturing
practice (GMP) and no government pressure to be true to the
label on their products.
It was't until March of 2003, nine years after the DSHEA
became law, that the FDA proposed new regulations to require
current good manufacturing practices (CGMPs) in the
manufacturing, packaging, and holding of nutritional
supplements.
According to the FDA, this is what prompted the new
regulation proposal:
"In recent years, analyses of dietary supplements by a
private sector laboratory suggest that a substantial number
of dietary supplement products analyzed may not contain the
amounts of dietary ingredients that would be expected to be
found based on their product labels". For example...
"Five of 18 soy and/or red clover-containing products were
found to contain only 50 percent to 80 percent of the
declared amounts of isoflavones".
"Of 25 probiotic products tested, 8 contained less than 1
percent of the claimed number of live bacteria or the number
of bacteria that would be expected to be found in such a
product".
The proposed rule will, for the first time, establish
standards to ensure that vitamin supplement ingredients are
not adulterated with contaminants or impurities, and are
labeled to accurately to reflect the active ingredients and
other ingredients in the product.
The proposed new regulations will be phased in over the next
three years so as not to disrupt the production of
nutritional supplements.
While the DSHEA has helped ensure that dietary supplements
remain easily accessible without excessive regulation,
(doctors prescriptions, etc.), it also has created a "wide
open" atmosphere for manufacturers who aren't yet in
compliance with good manufacturing practices (at this time,
GMP compliance is voluntary).
It's very easy for a supplement company to jump on the
bandwagonof the latest fad and put together a product with
little or no research and poor quality (and cheap!)
ingredients, and then market it with over-blown,
unsubstantiated claims and pure hype.
Some of the most common products that this formula is used
for are weight loss, HGH (human growth hormone) and multi
vitamins.
Supplement users are in the position of having to trust
vitamin supplement manufacturers to regulate themselves.
Although the dietary supplement industry has an excellent
track record of safety, it's been verified by the independent
product testing of consumerlab.com that some supplements do
not contain what is stated on their label and are sometimes
contaminated.
While some vitamin supplement manufacturers are working hard
to meet the new FDA guidelines, not all are. At this time,
you have to do your own research and take extra precautions
to find high quality nutritional supplements.
Tips for Choosing Nutritional Supplements
Vitamins, minerals and other nutrients work best when
they're combined in a way that mimics nature as closely as
possible. Look for nutritional supplements that have
nutrients combined to make use of the natural synergy
between them.
Companies willing to give a full disclosure and description
of their ingredients have usually put more effort and
research into their product. For example, instead of just
saying "Calcium" the label should be more detailed like this:
"Calcium (from 2430 mg Citrate, Malate, Ester-C)". This
description indicates that higher quality ingredients and
more up-to-date research was used for the supplement.
Verify that the supplement was produced at a pharmaceutical
GMP (good manufacturing practices) facility. Since
compliance to GMP standards is voluntary it's important to
do your own research to verify that macro-biological testing
is done at every stage of production.
(This issue shouldn't be taken lightly - as mentioned above,
studies by Consumerlab.com have shown that some supplements
don't have the true amount of ingredients as stated on the
label, or may harbor toxic contaminants.)
Pharmaceutical grade supplements (sometimes called
nutriceuticals) are made for "professional" use in the health
care field by natural health care providers and consumers
who want the best.
In the past decade pharmaceutical grade supplements have
become more availableto the general public and this type of
nutritional supplement will provide the health benefits that
you're looking for, often for a very reasonable price.
